“Cancel culture” does not exist. That’s not a “problem” out here. Who has ACTUALLY been “cancelled” after having been named as someone we are cancelling?? Who has that actually hurt?? I haven’t seen even one person actually be CANCELLED...

13:50 No. Simply no. You are not entitled to anyone’s forgiveness. People have a right to deny forgiveness. Would you ask a victim’s family to forgive a murderer? Forgiveness is earned not owed. You can change , learn from your mistakes and develop yourself as a person. But whether one who is within their right to be upset with you forgives you or not is in the end up to them. Victims of your sexual harassment are not obliged to forgive you because you have changed. Victims of you micro aggressions are not obliged to forgive you either. Let’s also acknowledge that “cancel culture” does nothing to people like you. The average person maybe doxed and have their job put at risk, but celebrities and public figures are basically untouched by “cancel culture”. A few hate comments, a “I’m disappointed in your behavior” and a slap on the wrist is not going to ruin your career. Make no mistake, it is stupid when a group of bored people on Twitter dig up your pre-historic tweet or picture and try to imply that you still are that same person (if you have truly changed). But the opportunity to grow is open to people like you since your platform remains nonetheless.

Woof. great questions, bad guest....embodies frantic white atonement, and the unfortunately classic un-thinker's reasoning to make her 'points'... "i like to talk about historical facts, and data! (...) the data, there's data!". what data? what historical points? saying these ideas as objects, nouns for placeholders in a conversation where empathy and applied reasoning should be, is troublesome and cringe...frankly. reasoning this way is the exact way that the people she denounces defend themselves. it contributes just as much confusion to the open dialogue as it deceives the audience of the speaker being "anti-racist". and let's get one thing clear, she functionally "canceled" her friend in that referenced conversation, and perpetuated the utility of cancel culture....it almost certainly did nothing but left them feeling embarrassed and defensive; nothing about this gave them the room to move forward from that moment, or as Emmanuel literally put it himself, "(...) the opportunity to grow, to morph, to evolve".

freedom of speech means offense loading. And we must be comfortable that someone is going to say something we find offensive so long as they are free to say it. Otherwise everyone is bound to be offended by something said by anyone. I much prefer freedom of speech with offense package than not having freedom of speech to live in a bubble.

I have a terrible question that makes me a terrible person. When I was little (about 8 or 9), I was playing in the snow with my best friend; I got tired and started “speaking gibberish,” and said the bad word. My mom asked me what I was saying, and I repeated it again, and she said, “Don’t say that, it’s a bad word.” She didn’t offer any explanation, so my friend and I figured it was a regular bad word. We liked to say bad words behind my mom and dad’s backs and giggle about it. We thought of it as the equivalent of “bitch” or “bastard” or something, which we tossed around as ‘silly-sounding’ descriptors that we could get in trouble for. One day, my best friend came over and said that her older brother (the master of swear words and slurs) said it was a bad word for Black people. Neither him nor my mother told us the significance, so we kept using it because we thought it was a regular old “bad word”. My best friend’s friend, who is Black, *appeared* to not be phased by it, and then taught us what “cracker” meant. By then, we knew a whole abundance of slurs (not including “cracker,” because it’s ok to call white people that, because they’re privileged anyway), and we used them to describe everybody (even my dog???). Around the time I was about 11, it fell out of use. I’d also seen people on the internet substitute the two Gs with a 🅱️ (B) emoji. I think that was when I was 12 or 13, and I thought that made it ok, but it doesn’t (obviously). Right after the resurgence of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, I began my journey to become anti-racist (I was 15, by the way). The thing is, I feel like I can’t, because now I’ll always be the racist dumbass that should never be loved. The memory of us saying it really disturbs me, and I constantly feel guilty when I’m around people of color, because I feel like they should hate me. I’m 16, now, and I still live with my parents because I’m a child, but we have wildly different political beliefs. My mom and dad are pretty conservative, but I’m definitely more progressive. My mom, when prompted, says (the word) with no hesitation, and I’ve called her a racist before. Neither of my parents support #BLM, and my mom used to say (the word) all the time when she was little, and she complained about how the Black kids would bully her because she was white, and how she had a Black friend, so she’s not racist and should be able to say (the word). I get uncomfortable and torn between believing my parents because I’m a kid, and learning more to expand my world and become and understanding grownup. I already don’t have any friends (I once made a distasteful in front of one of my ex-friends, who is Mixed race), and if I make one, I don’t want to lose them because I’m a horrible person... Any advice? I brought this up with me therapist, but she doesn’t talk about it much. I’m thinking about reaching out to the teacher(s) of the African American History class to have an uncomfortable conversation and learn how to better myself and take accountability without dwelling on it. I want to learn how to be friends with people and not be a bad person, but I hate myself, and now I have this internal battle happening: “How could I accept myself if I don’t accept others, but how can I accept others if I don’t accept myself?” I wish I could have some advice from someone who’s experienced with these conversations; so if you’re reading this, would it be wrong of me to ask if you’d help me?

I only rarely endorse “canceling” people. But she should have BEEN canceled Before cancel culture was even a thing. She abused her white privilege before white privilege was a used term. However, She has ALWAYS defined it. And enjoyed it and she also knew she defined it. I’ve always said it. Even back when she was super famous. She disgusted me. There are a few more as well. "Rising tide floats all boats", good wisdom. I like alot of this, but Chelsea saying as a comedian "it's my job not to offended" rings hollow to me. U can control what topics you talk about in your own conscience, but you cannot keep everyone from not being offended. Choose your comedy topics with your conscience, then let it rip. All the top comedians are offensive to someone

I think everyone needs to have a thicker skin. George Carlin was right: there is a pussification going on in America. You need to be able to engage in conversations that offend you and not be such a big baby about it. If you are in the right then you should be happy about that. Political correctness removes any ability to prove the other side wrong. You just cancel them. PROVE THE OTHER SIDE WRONG! Don't cancel! I feel all cancelled people are the winners. And that is sad because a lot of them were wrong and because they are cancelled they will never get exposed for how wrong they are. But don't worry, the pendulum will swing back the other way (to the left of course). Chelsea is a fucking moron.

White-Privilige is a real thing in the US it seems (kurdish muslim, living in germany... so i dont know), but it isnt something you should feel guilty about as a white person. If your views are not fucked up and you are not incorriging that system by your thoughts or actions... you are totally fine. My people got slaughtered too... you dont see me telling turkish people to feel guilty.
